Description of the chips
In Response To: Cleaning old clay chips ()

I have receieved a few e-mails asking for more information about the chips, so here is a description. I don't have a scanner, so I have no way to post a picture.

The whole set is about 250 chips, in red, blue, yellow, white and green. Most of the chips have a border design of spirals formed with right angles. (It is a common pattern, and it makes me think of old Greek architecture, but if there is a name for the pattern I don't know it.) Those chips have the initials or name TED in the middle. From the blue chips it appears that there might have been gold coloring in the initials once, but there isn't really any now. The green chips appear to be painted white chips, because the paint is buckling and wearing away at the edges, and the lines of the pattern are less distinct. All the chips show signs of regular use, and occasional chipping and cigarette burns.

Not all the chips match. Some of the blue chips have a darker color and the words 'BULL DOG', with a picture of a bulldog, both in white. A few of the red chips have a white circle in the center with a red four-leaf clover. A few chips of all colors except green have a border pattern of two concentric circles with retangular impressions between. Those also have TED in the middle, in a different font. A few other chips, also all colors but green, have a border pattern of lines pointing toward the center of the chip (i.e., interlocking chips.)

I don't know anything about poker chip collecting, so I may have omitted some crucial minutia from my description. I would be shocked to learn that they had any real value, and I am not really inclined to sell them. (They are heirlooms, and probably more valuable to me than the market value. I intend to use them in my regular game.) However, if someone were to offer me a year's salary I would be sorely tempted. : ) Anyway, I appreciate all the helpful responses.

Thanks,
