Re: BINION? About who is on the horse?

The man on the horse is legendary Benny Binion. His son Ted is the one who was found in Pahrump.

Benny is one of the MAIN players in the making of Las Vegas. In 1946, Benny left Texas with his wife and five kids for Vegas. One of his kids committed suicide, Teddy was found dead, Jack was booted out of Vegas by Becky and now runs the Horseshoe in Mississippi, Becky Behnen runs the Horseshoe in Vegas, and I don't know what the other daughter, Brenda Mighael is doing.

In 1951, Benny opened the Horseshoe at it's present place on Fremont Street. In the 50s, he was convicted of tax evasion and spent 3 1/2 years in Leavensworth penitentiary. At that time developer Joe Brown took care of Benny's casino but it did change it's name to Brown's Horseshoe for awhile. Joe Brown develoved the LV Country Club which is behind the LV Hilton on Joe W. Brown which turns into Swenson at Desert Inn.

In the early days, if you wanted a high stakes game, you went to Binion's. He was the anchor of the downtown area for forty years. Benny died of congestive heart failure on Christmas day, 1989.
