Re: Dry Heat
In Response To: Re: Convention airfares ()

True Story: During one of our first summer trips to LV we decided to visit the Grand Canyon. As we drove our rental car (a Renault Alliance) in 110 degree heat past Hoover Dam my wife decides she has to visit the bathroom and can't wait another 5 hours. I see a sign that says some town is only 5 miles away. We go to the town which is 5 miles DOWNHILL and it takes 30 minutes to get there. There is no town but fortunately a porta potty was available. We leave and of course have the air conditioner going full blast on the trip UPHILL. About 500 yards from the main highway (straight UP) the little car starts smoking and wheezing and bucking. I quickly turn OFF the air conditioner and try to nurse the car up to the highway before it dies. It gets hot in a car quickly when it is 110 outside and opening the windows doesn't do any good. The engine is on its last leg when we finally hit the highway and, fortunately, the car cooled down and ran OK for the rest of the trip. But there was a time there where I thought that we would all look like Slim Jims.
