... but I wonder if ANYTHING got postmarked that day in San Francisco. I have no idea whether the SF post office survived or not (or whether, like A.P. Giannini, they set up shop that afternoon on the sidewalk outside their destroyed building).

Although Marin was closer to the center of the quake, it was sparsely populated at that time and the damage was relatively light. Of course, there was that famous picture of the cow that fell halfway into a crack in the earth, which then closed up on her and left her hindquarters sticking up in the air.

This one might not be worth the BIG bucks, but I think it is an interesting historical item and am glad I noticed the date before doing something silly like putting it back on eBay for $1.50!! ----- jim o\-S
