Don, I've been keeping track of the chips I sold to
be able to rattle off who has what. On the floor of
the convention after the boat went down I was on the
floor and knew what chips traded hands, as was Mark.
There were past employees from the boat who made a
trip to the convention to seek out the chips at
bargain prices and they found none. Through the last 4 or 5-years I've
seen two chips that I sold trade hands at least six
times from Florida to California to Howell, MI, to Upstate NY, and back to Califoenia. One
$2.50 chip recently returned to Florida from
California. I knew the exact day that chip went on
the market and was told exactly when the deal went
down by the buyer (the buyer is reading this). No. We're not talking
record-breaking sales here, but were talking about
two people who sat down to do some math in 1996
while at a coin show trying to figure out who else
(collector) in Florida could have been on the boat
and walked with chips. Last night I learned of John M's chip that he got from a woman while on another Florida boat. A handful of chips can
sometimes look like hundreds. There are chips that
I know of where only two (2) exist...it's impossible
for there to be more than two, as everything had
been accounted for before destruction. Both chips
have been spotted by several collectors in other
collector's hands. Chips do not stay put in
collections like many of would like to believe.
