... in our community. I corresponded with Don occasionally the last few years, bought a few chips from him and was fortunate to meet him at last year's convention. A quick story to show the kind of person he was:

When the first of the Harrah's Bud Ice chips came out, I bought two from him, one of which was for my wife (she was a graduate of Dominican College, the mascot of which is a Penguin). I asked him to send me a list of the serial numbers he had available. He did and, among others, they included 0413 and 0415. I wrote back, expressing disappointment that he didn't have 0414, as my wife's birthday was April 14. Shortly after, I got a message from Don saying that he had kept one chip for his own collection and when he checked the number, found it was 0414. Therefore, he had taken it out of his collection to send to me for my wife. Not a big deal, but the type of personal kindness that made Don truly one of the good guys in our hobby.
