Re: a reply and suggestion --- a long post
In Response To: Met the VEEP... Part 2 ()

I only know two of the officers of the club, both of whom are computer literate and is aware of "our" bulletin board.

Without purposely initiating any sort of agrument, but just as a suggestion, I think the next group of board members should be not only computer literate, but be knowledgable of the feelings and desires of its members.

I realize that being an officer of the club is a voluntary position, but should be held by persons with time to devote to it. Possibly a retiree or other such individual who is not preoccupied with financial matters.

Please hear me out. I am not critizing the current board members. I am just reiterating what I see some of the agruments are on the board and offering a solution when the time is right (the next formal election.)

In the meantime, I don't think it is doing the reputation of the club much good by our constant harping on the fact that the current board is unresponsive to the ever-changing current discussions. If responses have not been forthcoming by this time, one can expect they will not be in the future.

I was brought up on the typewriter as most of you were. I remember dictating to a machine and/or to a steno as well as you do. But times have changed. This is the era of the computer, e-mail, and bulletin boards--the time of instant communication. I have one daughter who just last night, purchased a used 400 mega-something for less than $300.00 complete with windows 98 and a bunch of other garbage. I don't believe that I am being to conservative not feel sorry for a chip collector who during the course of a year is willing to spend hundred or even thousands of dollars to enhance his collection and won't spend another couple of hundred dollars for a used computer.

Just because a person may be a senior, is not a good enough reason not to sit down for a few hours and self-teach himself something new.

I know I'll probably be putting my foot in my mouth for this one, but I might as well be the one to say it. I, for one would be more than happy to receive my quarterly magazine via the internet, just as I do other publications. That way, it would all be in color and save the club one heck of a lot of money on printing and postage cost. And I would even get it on time so that I could submit my vote for the COTY <g>. And heaven forbid, I might even be able to vote via the internet at 11:59 on the 29th of February and be in time.
