Re: 1967 landmark token
In Response To: Re: 1967 landmark token ()

Hi Carrie,

My book on Franklin Mint Issues covering the years 1965-1967 states the following. The silver dollars that were used in Nevada casinos began disappearing from circulation in 1964 as a result of rising silver prices and collector demand. By 1966 their circulation had ceased. To replace the silver dollars, the Franklin Mint Gaming Tokens were introduced in 1965. These are in One Dollar denominations and were issued by 27 casino. In addition, during 1967, Half Dollar, Two Dollar and Five Dollar denominations were introduced in Nevada. In all, there are 194 types of 1965-67 Franklin Mint Gaming Tokens, forming a collection of unusual interest and variety. The token you are asking about was minted in solid sterling silver and the net mintage of Proofs - 251, Proof Like - 1553 and a regular Mint Run of 1014. They have sold on eBay for around $35.00. Sometimes more sometimes less. I got a price list some time back from a token & chip collector/dealer and he had a price of $40.00 on his. I sold a collection of 24 different 1967 $5.00 sterling silver Proof Like issues for around $900.00 to another collector and your Landmark token was included. The buyer said to me at the time that the deal was like Christmas to him when I offered to sell them to him. He would have paid more. I have a complete set of all the 1967 Franklin Mint issues and will not sell the $5.00 tokens for less than $35.00 each. They in my opinion are worth every penny. They are larger than the $10.00 silver strikes of today and are solid sterling silver.
Hope this helps you, Don
