Wal-Mart got the first 100 million ...

... of the Sacagawea coin in a special deal with the Mint. Wal-Mart is using them in place of $1 bills, up to 10 coins per customer (unless the customer specifically asks for paper).

Guess they now have to ask, "Paper or metal?" when they check you out!

The Mint has also made a deal to include the new coin (or a certificate for one) in Cheerios boxes.

All part of a marketing scheme aimed at making the Sacagawea dollar more acceptable to the public than the Susan B was.

The mint expects to produce 1 billion of these coins this year (which will exceed the total production of the Susan B's). ----- jim o\-S
