You know, this reminds me of when I had the two different $5 chips. I was looking at the texture on the backgrounds with a magnifying glass and noticed two very distinct different textures. One was a kind of random bumpy pattern and the other looked like lots of tiny loops. You might want to check that out on these two examples and see if you see something similar here.
