Duke, the drop chips are used in poker games. For each hand a dealers deals, the house rakes a certain amount (in California, the norm is $3.00 per hand) and "drops" it into the slot in the table which eventually goes into the box below the slot. In some games, usually higher limit games, the house charges a certain dollar amount per 1/2 hour.
