In Response To: Guam - Casino's ??????? ()

Doug, I was stationed on Guam during 1995 and 1996. There was a referendum in 1996 on casino gambling that failed by a 3 to 1 margin. The Catholic church is very much against it, but it has been proposed for the big hotels that cater to the Japanese, Korean, and Taiwanese tourists. There was a casino, the Lone Star, on the island of Tinian in the U.S. Commonweath of the Northern Marianas (CNMI) just to the north of Guam. It failed not long after opening. Chipco was selling their chips not long ago. This link takes you to a paper detailing past gaming efforts on Guam. (http://uog2.uog.edu/sbdc/journals/dierking96.htm)
