'84 Olympics chip, $10; profits to Club

Hello all.

I finally received the “Olympics” chips -- the ones Travis called our attention to, the ones I said I’d bid for on eBay and give the profits to the Club. With postage, I paid $165 for the box of 100 -- all in mint condition, with the Paulson hat and cane mold..

If you want any, send me $10 for one or $20 for two (postpaid):

Here is what I know about the chips:

1. Each side is different (see scan below). They do not have a casino name on them. They do not say “Olympics” (copyrighted?) on them. They do say “Las Vegas, Nevada.” They are surely Olympics-related, what with the picture of an athlete and inscription “1984 Summer Games, Los Angeles, California.”

2. The dealer who auctioned them on eBay said she acquired them by “buying storage sheds that people default in payment on” (?). She also said the chips were given away for free to people going on junkets between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

3. Gene Trimble is pretty sure he saw one of the chips in 1984 in connection with a friend’s trip to the Olympics in LA.

4. Dick Price said on this BB he was recently offered 1700 of them (for quite a lot of money, he told me). He was told the Las Vegas Convention Center had them made.

5. I had never saw them offered on eBay (until this purchase).
