Re: Silver Strike Questions/comments

Excellent follow-up responses Dennis and Lisa. One more thing about mintages that needs to be said regarding the total number of strikes produced. That does not mean that all those strikes that were reportedly produced are in collectors hands. Many of them will languish in dresser drawers and safe deposit boxes and safes of non-collectors for years to come.... only to be discovered by their heirs when it comes time to dispose of estates. .999 fine silver has an attraction to lots of speculators. Even coin collectors are attracted to the silver strike series but not to slot tokens in general. In addition, when the machines are taken out of play, the tokens that were minted for that property are either melted or destroyed; so the total numbers produced can be used as a guide, but is not an absolute as to how many pieces are "out there". This phenomenon, coupled with the inventory of multiple pieces that many silver strikers traders have held back in inventory over a period of years, sometimes leave very little of the older issues available to those who are just beginning to collect silver strikes. When a particular strike is on most SS collectors "wish-list", you can bet that it is not a common one.
