Another milestone chip

For the first time, a chip was produced that cost the collector less than face and was equally successful for the casino!!!!. After Harrah's came out with the "Penquin" chips (3 numbered and limited to 500 @?) at the Lake; a birdie put the idea of using a liquor distributor with the casino chip since the advertiser would pay for the cost of the chip. After a few months and much consideration by the Hilton chain; Jim Roets, General Manager of the Reno Hilton put out a "Hot Aug. Nites" $5 and $25 with only 1750 five's and 250 of the twnety -fives with the KALUA liquour advertised on one side. Not only did they pay for the chip, but the produced a ticket- like numbered coupon for a free Kahlua offered; good til' the end of Sept. Now, when have we ever been able to buy a collectible series and get a $3.00 drink with it for a total cost of less than face. Those that did not think quickly and went to the bar for their free drink will be sorry since the coupon is as important as the chip since it is A FIRST IN CHIPPING. I believe others will soon join the trend to have chips made in coordination with commercial advertising since it means the advertiser will be able to track popularity of their drink etc. which was very successful at the Hilton since most drinkers will re-order the same drink after the first Kahlua (comps are still paid for by the casino) and the sales of their product jumped substantially. A Win Win situation especially since they made a small number to assure collectibility. Even if you do not collect LE"s this chip will mark another milestone as key as the Sailboat Chipfrom Harrah's in 1990......
