partial trip report

I went to the Paris flea market today. It was supposed to rain today but I got very lucky and it held off. I managed 3 1/2 hours there and probably got thru half of it. That is the good news. The bad news is I only saw two groups of chips. One was a cup of MOP chips but there was no engraving on any of them so I passe even at $2 each. The other was a small box of rectangular bone chips but the lady ignored me when I asked to see them so too bad for her. They had no engraving either so no big loss. At 1:30 I decided to look at the weather and this huge green glob was going to hit at 2 so I decided to boogie home. I will go back tomorrow and finish it.

Paris is still a lot of fun but at my age it is hard to spend more than a few hours per day walking around. The first full day I saw the D'orsay and the Army museum. It is amazing to me just how many old army items are still around. I am talking about swords and guns from the 1500-1600's. They don't have one or two but cases and cases and more cases full of them.

Yesterday I went to Montmartre to see Sacre Couer. Before I left the Metro stop (I was going to take the funicular up to Sacre Couer) I saw a sign that showed an elevator and one with stairs. I chose the stairs figuring I could manage the usual 20 or 30 steps. I was more like 500. Google maps then led me astray and I was faced with a block and a half set of stairs going straight up. Where the heck was that funicular??? After almost killing myself with the stairs (AGAIN!!) I turned right towards Sacre Couer and 50 feet away was the funicular unloading point. GEEZ! At least the walk back to the metro was mostly downhill.
